HELP!! 02 1500 auto won't go into gear
 

i have a 02 1500 automatic and it will not go into gear. Press on the break and the gear shift just goes up and down without clicking into gear. I've checked the shift cable and it looks ok. Any ideas??

does it move without the key on?...You need to have another person look under the truck while you shift it to make sure the shift lever moves.....if it doesnt then your cable is broke

If someone gets under there and pops it in by hand it will pull it up through the gears from say 3rd to park but then it wont bring it back down through the gears it just falls up and down.

cable is broken then..either that or the shifter is broken....my money is on the cable
