OK I know somewhere I have seen some homemade CAI's, but I can't seem to find them now. I want to add one to my truck, but just can't see paying $200 plus. Do any if you have any pics or ideas to make one? If so, what kind of gains have you seen? Thanks in advance!

 

Autozone has one off the shelf for 149.00!! They stock it now for the 99-06 GM motors. I put it on mine and I could tell a big difference. Of course I already have the tune and cam for it.

 

And it came with the filter too? Do you have a part number?

Nice find man! Before I order it were you very happy with it. Was there anything that was suspect or cheaply made?

 

Na I love it! Made quite a difference in throttle response and torque. The material is pretty durable. I've used their cone filters before with no problems. Heck you could even get a K&N cone filter and use that instead. The intake tube is very clean and large. Its 4 inches in diameter. Im probably gonna get it ceramic coated here where I work to block hot temps. Here it is usually 100 degrees out. The intake temp reads around 110 at a stop and will drop down to 85 on the run. I have electric fans. So well worth it.

 

If you insist on runnning an open air filter such as the spector of K&N cone filter get a dry charger or another name for it is a "pre charger filter wrap" to cover it. All it is is a tightly woven nylon mesh that goes over the open filter with elastic on either end. It will keep the water of the cotton or paper filter and keep the filter cleaner longer. I ran just my K&N CAI and the filter had a white spot on it after 3 months... the oil had disappated off the cotton due to the rain and other nasties that were blowing on it. The dry charger/ filter wrap has stoped the water and the filter is clean still even after 2 years since I installed it. http://www.summitracing.com/search/?...%20wraps&dds=1

I went to Autozone to check out the Spectre kit and it looks real decent. I just wonder how long before that shiney tube starts to rust. Are you having any sign of that ruffneck? Also what cam are you running?
