How to clean wheels!
 

Hey guys, I asked this question to benpfeil earlier and he was very helpful, but I thought I would get some more opinions. I have Eagle Alloy rims on my truck and they are not looking the best. I've tried different things, but all my attempts to get them looking like new and shining have failed. If you guys have any tips on how to get these rims looking better I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot guys and I look foward to hearing your opinions!

i use transmission oil on aluminum rims, works nice

Tranmission oil I hear works great on cleaning engines as well. My buddy as an 81 Camaro and let's just say by accident, got transmission fluid all over his engine and it now looks like new!! Anyway, exactly how do you clean them with the tranny fluid? Do you take a rag and go to town on them or what? I appreciate all your help. I want to get these things looking good again!

I don't know about making them look good but to clean them real good you could use aluminum foil.

You can do that on chrome but I don't know about the polished wheels. It cleans more than anything like steel wool does. I'm telling you get that metal renew stuff and those polishing buffs but your gonna have to work at them for awhile

I haven't had to clean the wheels on my chevy yet. I can tell you that on my big rig I use mothers mag and aluminum polish. Wow does this stuff work wonders. There is also nothing like a power buffer to do the job. I have been looking for the wonder product to take them from hazy to new looking for quite some time and man let me tell you I haven't found it. I usually have to hit them a couple of times with the mothers for the like new look. If you do them on a regular basis you might have a shot at keeping them looking good.

Make sure the alloy wheels is cool. Never spray a wheel cleaner on a hot wheel as it can cause a chemical reaction and permanently stain the wheel. Rinse first or depending upon the chemical. Severely dirty wheels with plastic center caps should be removed first to avoid possible damage. Start spraying wheel cleaner from the bottom up to avoid streak runs. Wheel faces should be cleaned with a wash mitt or a soft brush. After washing, wheels should be polished and waxed.
