Hypertech for stock only?

I have been running a a Hypertech III on my 2001 with 5.3 and CAI. I've gotten noticably better throttle response, firmer shifts and better MPG...basicallt I've been pretty pleased with it. I just upgraded my cats and exhaust and was thinking about a high flow MAF to round things out. I called hypertech and they said that the tuning is desinged for STOCK VEHICLES ONLY, and that the exhaust and MAF with through the tuning off.

What are the best/most popular tuners out their that are compatable with mods...granatelli, bullydog, diablo. Suggestions please!

RE: Hypertech for stock only?

i had a granatellia MAF with CAI tunning, and it did nothing. 3 tanks of gas, no increase in mpg. throttle/hp response seemed exactly the same.
i have also heard mixed reviews on MAF sensors, some like them, some dont. also ive been told that they are hard to tune around.

anyways to answer your questions, hypertech is probably the safest programmer for the gains out there but they do not adjust alot of settings. i have heard that the diablo is pretty good, but im not to savvy on all the tuning terms so im a little hesitate about it. but as soon as i can sell my hypertech and pay of the ole credit card, i might look into it.

i personally would stay with the stock MAF sensor but that is up to you to see if it does anything for you.

good luck

Whan you say stay with the stock MAF, do you consider descreened the MAF to still be a stock MAF? The hypertech is a great programmer, I went from 325 miles a tank to almost 400 miles a tank and the trottle is alot more responsive. The only reason I would get rid of it is if I can every get ahold of Wheatly to do a custom tune.

RE: Hypertech for stock only?

i havent descreened my MAF sensor, alittle to worried about damaging it. but yes i would still consider that a stock sensor.

i just didnt see much out of the granatelli not for the $300 or whatever i paid for it (cant remember).
i guess i got a truck made on a friday or a monday because it consistantly seems to get worst mpgs than other trucks with the same setup.

im thinking of either going with the predator or with a guy at work's snyper custom tuning, havent decided yet. dont really want to spend anymore money yet.

good luck.
