i ask a lot of questions about tires...

do yall think i can fit 285/75/r16s on a 2wd? my 275/70 s left some room, but not a lot... if they'd rub, how bad? i need new tires soon, and im either getting 265/75 or 285/75...

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

Well at NTB, they said no larger than 275's for mine and its a 4X4. Only way to go bigger than that would be wheels with more back-spacing but then you'd prob have to trim the bumper anyways. I'd stick with 265's.

You know 2wd lift kits aren't too expensive and you can squeeze bigger tires under it. Get a locker and you can 4-wheel (more) with it too!

ive got a little body lift on my z71 and the 285s still rub a little

Did they change the ride height between the 99 and 01 z71? I had 285/75/r16son my 01 z71 and they were fine...

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

Probably not, I got my information from a "recommended" tire size guide for my truck and mine is the same as yours. If they fit go for it! Im actually glad to hear that cause now Im going to look at 285's. Lol.

I have 17" Denali wheels that I want some big tires on. I just don't know what kind of tire I want.

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

285s fit on most z71s with no problems... im thinking my 2wd is too low though... and i considered lifting it but i dont have the funds at the moment... a locker is definitely on my list though

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

I had All-Terrains before and they held up great in the snow. Mud-Terrains I've heard are better but more expensive. Radial T/As work well too in all (but off-road) conditions.

I love the Pirelli Scorpion ATR's that I have on my rig ...double side wall protection ....great road grip ...I haven't tried them out off-road ..but a guy I know has them on his Jeep and swears by them.

I also love the way they look ...well, as much as you can love the way a tire looks. lol

BFG All Terrains are supposed to be one of the best A/T tires available and have been on the market for a long time. I have heard good things about Pirelli Scorpion ATRs on the road as well....They actually outsold the BFG A/Ts on tirerack.com. I need new tires and have been thinking about getting either of those or Goodyear Wranglers. If money was not a factor, what All Terrain tire would you guys pick for highway and offroad 50/50?

Also, my old man has had BFGs on many many trucks. He said they are awesome..but the only downside is you have to rotate them all the time or they will wear funny, but they perform great.

for all terrain, the BFGs are hard to beat.

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

my bfgs are definitely an awesome combination of on-road manners and off-road skill... my only beef is the tread life is kind of short, but i was a little hard on them, so maybe not

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

For all terrains i would go with Pro Comps they are what i want but i currently only have some cheap Stampedes. They are what came on the truck.. only had it 3 months

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

thats why i didnt get the all terrains cause of the life, i went with some 3/4 ton radials besides the fact that they were free and new so i didnt have a whole lot of choosing to do.

That's strange you guys are wearing them out fast. I got 50k out of my last set.

Pro Comp X-Terrains are great and I got great life out of them. Perform very well on road and off.

RE: i ask a lot of questions about tires...

im pretty sure my treadlife was my fault, because two of them look fine, and one time i was trying to pull a buddy out of a mudhole and fried the rear tires
