I thought I was imagining seeing more and more GM trucks ...
I guess it wasn't my imagination ...

RE: I thought I was imagining seeing more and more GM trucks ...
It was a nice surge in SUV/Truck sales, but how long can they maintain it? It'd be nice if it were more about quality than quantity. That's why until really recently cars only lasted 10 years on the outside before they fell apart (at least in Michigan weather). I'd rather see something saying "40% of all vehicles on the road is brand X" or "22% of brand X lasts 10 years or more"
There are some satisfaction/quality ratings, but they aren't emphasized by the media or by the companies (other than marketing gimmicks) |

A few ramblings:
1) Depending on which part of the country you live in, you can make fairly accurate guesses as to what people are driving. Here in the California Bay Area, it would be safe to say that40% - 50%of all vehicles on the roads are Honda's and Toyota's. 20%-30% trucks (mainly Ford and Chevy) and 20% - 30% BMW's, Mercedes, etc. It's probably a tie between here an LA who has the most ricers. It's probably a very safe bet to say that we have more hybrid vehicles in the Bay Area (lots of tree-huggers, tax credits for owning a hybrid, and the right to drive in the carpool lane). 2) Any car can run foran indefinate amount ofyears if maintained properly. My mother had a Ford Pinto (yes, the one with the exploding gas tanks lol) for over 20 years ...when she donated it to charity (for the tax write off), it was still running like a champ. My step mother had a Honda Accord ...never had the oil changed, no tranny fluids, no plugs, nadda ...that thing was begging to be shot after (I'm trying to remember how long she had it ...it's been a few too many beers and a few too many years ...) about 5 years. 3) Statistics do not depend on numbers ....the main factor is "who is doing the study?" ...ever hear of "3 out of 4 dentist recommend Crest?" Do I have a point? Not really. ....other than +1 :P |
RE: I thought I was imagining seeing more and more GM trucks ...
I remember hearing a while back too that manufacturers expect Americans to be a new vehicle every couple of years. So I'm sure quality of the initial sale is all they really care about. What the second and third owners think about it means beans to them.
