jump seat mod, modded?
My original design was done out of drunkin rage. it ended up with pvc holding it together but it worked for a while.
For those of you newer to the forum, I had a fixed back center jumpseat in my truck. although i wanted the fold down console, they were too expensive. so I cut the back of the seat off, turned it over and made it a fixed arm rest. total cost about 10 bucks. that of corse broake via my wife trying to lift theFIXED seat back up. So i went back to it with a better understanding of the project and a sober mind. |
RE: jump seat mod, modded?
step one: i found these hinges at home depot for 3 bucks a peice. they are hinges for fold down shelves. I drilled them out and straighted them in the vise.
I had to recut the seat posts to make tose even as well I then stripped the leather and foam out of the upper portion to be able to work with the metal these are the hinges bolted on to the top portions innards. *****special note***** don't grab the metal you just drilled on, it burns really bad!! RE: jump seat mod, modded?
the bottom part of the seat posts are exposed easily, the back parts are jus velcroed to each other inside the back cover peice
then just pull back the foam to reveal the bottom pipe. ripe for tha drillin! there was a union issue with my helper so he quit and started working on his own car. here is the back skeleton bolted to the bottom. Finally! RE: jump seat mod, modded?
her it is with everything buttoned back up. it looks and works a hell of alot better than it did. total cost including the first attempt was only 20 bucks and about 3 hours time.

RE: jump seat mod, modded?
Sweet. Nice job man. I know I have thought about buying the work truck package and doing the same thing. I will have to relay this info to my old boss, he wanted to do the same thing but he chickened out cuz he didnt want to damage his seats.

RE: jump seat mod, modded?
it was pretty easy with the right tools. I really would have liked to have welded it but I didn't have acess to a welder. the important thing to remind him is to use a pipe cutter and not a hacksaw.
