just got a 2008 Sierra Z71 2WD

After much agonizing, plunked down some green for my first new 4-wheeled vehicle, ever, in my over-quarter century of driving.

So far, I love it!

700+ miles later, several questions...

> Why must the fog lights turn off when the high beams are activated? Can this be by-passed? I do have driving scenarios where distance AND close-up should be lit (curvey mountain passes)

> Why the 90mph cut out? Is this a temporary limit? Will the truck ECU eventually let me do over 100mph if I CHOOSE to?

You can get a programmable chip and change the top speed limiter if you would like.

(sigh)

I was hoping this 90mph thing was a temporary break-in-period deal.
There is NO reason to limit this truck to 90mph. For one, it's loafing at 2500prm. And, it has great handling and stability at 90mph.

!!!!!MY REPLY ENDED UP IN THE QUOTED PORTION!!!!!

The reason for limiting the top speed is often related to the speed rating of the tires. Read your Owners Manual for the new vehicleBreak-In recommendations which is practicly non-existant today. If I am recalling correctly, (I don't have a 2008 Owners Manual in my hands right now) GM recommends varying the speeds and loads for the first 500 miles if I am recalling correctly. The major concern is the differential and making sure you aren'tworking that too hard right away. The rings break-in very quickly due to the precise machineing and assembly that is being done today.
