K&N Cold air intake - 2008 5.3L

Anyone know how K&Ncold air intake affects performance of 5.3L engine? Does it help with Gas Mileage? K&N website of course tells you what you want to read. I also have Magnafow dual exhaust. I read somewhere the the computer would need to be adjusted to accept theincreased air. Is this true?

The computer will adjust itself. And yes it will help with fuel economy and performance. If it was me, I would look at one that doesn't require oiling....try looking at the AEM Brute Force intakes.

I have the K&N on my 08 5.3L with the Maganflow duals. Love it. Buy it. You'll love it.

If you get a Volant or K&N system you are fine. If you go for a monster one or you add a throttle body spacer or bigger MAF, you are going to need a tune to comp for the extra air. The PCM can only adjust so far on its own in some cases. But GM states that standard duty cat-back exhausts and K&N airfilters will give added performance on their own without hurting anything.

I just called the Chevy dealer and asked this same question. He said that the truck will adjust and run great with cold air intake and he suggested K&N or AEM but warned to not oil filter too much because that could get inside the intake system and affect the computers. So I think I will go with AEM which does not require oiling the filter - besides the AEM aluminum inlet pipe will look a lot nicer. I'm still curous how this will affect MPG but I guess I'll just have to install this and report back on the findings!

I have a 2008 silverado 5.3L. I was told by a GM rep not to use a CAI that requires oil. He said since the stock one has no oil, one with oil would void the warranty if an issue arose because of the oil. He said the AEM brute force was ok; however, a K&N probably is better and shouldn't cause a problem! It's up to you if you want to chance it!

No use going with oiled when you can avoid it. It makes no sense to use oiled.
