leveling kit and new shocks

I have a Silverado 2005 1500 z71 crew cab and i want to level the front of the truck. I had heard that the easiest way to level it would be to crank the front torsion bars. Is this the only way to level the truck? Also I have read that cranking the torsion bars causes the ride to become stiff. Since i will soon need to replace the shocks on my truck, could i put a set of adjustable shocks on the truck like the Rancho rs900xl, and dial them to a softer setting and eliminate the stiff ride from the torsion crank? Finally, Will there be anything else that will need to be replaced down the road due to the extra stress on the suspension? Also, I know you can get new torsion keys but i have a feeling that will hurt the ride as well even though the manufactures say it wont, am i correct or will new torsion keys keep the stock ride?

Am i right in that new torsion keys make the ride rough or do they actually keep the factory ride like advertised

yes cranking the tbars will make the truck ride like crap. you can buy a "leveling" kit which is reindexed tbar keys that allow the front end to be lifted about 2" so you dont have to crank the bars. this will not negatively affect the ride quality. i would suggest getting Bilstien shocks that are for 2" lift in the front. in some cases you might have to crank the bars a hair to get it level even with the keys but as long as you dont crank to much you wont hurt ride quality

You will need a good alignment.

will the alignment i can get at a service station do or is it not as good as an alignment from a dealership? and who makes a good set of torsion keys. also will this cause any problems down the road because of extra stress or anything?

A computerized alignment is the best in this situation. It shouldn't cause any problems. I'm not sure about the keys.

i was just lookin around and saw that the bilstein 5100 are advertised to level the front of the truck withought crankin the tbars. Has anyone tried this and if so did they actually lift the front? how was the new ride quality? Also Bilstein says that you have to have lift already on the truck for them to fit, but on another forum someone said u dont have to but it wasent a chevy forum so does anyone noif u have to have a lift?
