What year and model? My 98 has to have the whole radio replaced unless you know how to micro solder some new lights into a circuit board.

i say go ahead and buy an aftermarket stereo if you want to fix/replace it. the factory one sounds like *** anyways. you can get a basic one that sounds way better for as little as $120

I second that. You don't realize how much better car stereos can sound when you replace the head unit. Factory steroes never put out enough Watts and GM radios don't hold up anyways.

I don't know, my delco unit seems to be holding up pretty well. I have swaped it out with other units and have been dissapointed. The other units put to much power to the factory speakers that I didn't want to replace. Just something that I have encountered. That and the delco units have an over powering feature that basically they won't let you over power the factory speakers. It senses feedback or something.

They have aftermarket ones that have the same feature. Im not positive if they still do but Sony used to do that. I took my factory one out cause the lights went out. My truck has the middle of the road 6 speaker system, so it sounds pretty good and the aftermarket CD player makes it sound much better. I bought an ALPINE and it has tons EQ and Media Expansion settings that can make any car speakers sound good. I was a believer after i put one in my old truck where it only had four real crappy paper 4 X 6 speakers and it sounded better with the Alpine without distorting (unless you cranked it up all the way).

Yeah I noticed that feature on the GM radios and I hate it. My stereo keeps getting louder as i turn it up until i get to about the 3/4 mark with volume ****, then it gets quieter. And mine even has the factory Bose system and it still does that. I think its BS. I cant wait to buy a new head unit. Im waiting untill i move...right now i live in the ghetto and someone will jack a new stereo from my truck for sure if they see it.

My cousin just gave me a Kenwood KVT 911 this weekend. He installed a newer one. I can't wait to get it installed ...I ordered the kit from Crutchfied to make it work with my door chimes.

This thing has a tv tuner, dvd, touch screen, etc

Yeah i know what you are talking about. I have been looking at those for a while. Im gonna get one, just cant decide which brand. Alpine looks nice but its $1000. I think i could do without the door chime hookups tho. Those are damn annoying. I can never listen to radio with my door open because that damn dinger is always goin off.

what is the door chime thing from crutchfield you are talking about. I just bought a sirius reciever for my truck also. Ive never had the stereo out in my truck yet 01 Z71 does the factory stereo have rca jacks in it. I know i need to replace it anyways but for now with my wedding comming up money is kinda tight so im just going to try and make it work for now. I know you can get that adapter that plugs straight into the fm antenna and i will probably do that just curious if anyone knew if the stereo had rca's so i would know what else i needed to buy.
