Looking to buy new chevy 93-98
 

Hey everbody!

This is for all the chevy experts out there. I am looking to buy a Chevy c/k 1500 between the years of 1993 and 1998. I was wondering if 122,000 miles on this engine would be too many or if it will most likely last long past this. I also wanted to know if the 5.0L 304 was a dawg because I heard it was and was thinking I should probably go with the 350 but I dont know a whole lot about this stuff. Any thoughts and feedback you guys could give me would be great and appreciated!!

It doesn't say it here, but that particular truck had the 350 Engine and 700R4 Tranny. My 92 has 140000 miles and I don't even think its broke in yet

The 305 (not 304) and the 350 will last the same amount of miles given they are maintained the same. As far as being a dog, the 305 does have a little less power than the 350. I have driven 305's that have had great power and I have driven 350's that were a little on the doggy side. It really depends on the the truck. Of course, the 350 trucks are more desireable and will resell better when your tired of it. I wouldn't pass up a great deal on a truck just becasue it has a 305 though. Especially the 96 and newer vortec 305's. They runs as well as the 95 and earlier 350's. If I had my choice - I would look for a 96 and newer 350. Just my 2 cents!

I have the 305 w/145k on it - the engine runs great and I like it but I tend to agree w/Mr. Shamrock that the 350 would be a better purchase overall. The mileage of the truck other than the engine is what is important - for instance, mine has needed a water pump, battery, tires, electrical work, and is about to get a complete brake system. Can't blame that on the 305, just on the true mileage, and those things are 'normal' at this age of the truck, IMO. The 350 will probably have overall better aftermarket and performance options, and better resale/interest than the 305 - if those things are important to you. I really don't need my truck to do much towing or heavy hauling, so the normal duty of the 305 works for me. I foresee a small trailer full of quads/dirt toys in the future and I think the 305 will do just fine for that. It still gets up and moves when I need it to, but I'm not going to hook up a 5th wheel and take it on vacation :)

I would definately go with the 350 but that is only because I am not sure I could be happy with the 305 knowing I could have had a 350. As far as milage, that amount is perfectly fine as long as everything seems to be in good shape 305 or 350. One of my friends had a 305 with 321,xxx miles on it and it ran very very strong until she got T-boned a month ago and totaled it.

Well thank you everyone for the help. I figured everybody would mostly say the 350 I just have seen a few nice trucks with the 305 and basically wanted to know if I would just be better off with the 350. The answer is clear, thanks again!
