looking for some info

I have a 2004 Silerado 2500 HD 4x4 with a 6.0 gasoline engine. I hadn't driven it for a couple days and when I took it for a ride it started stalling on me. I got it home but it wont stay running. Most of the time it wont even start but when it does it only runs for about 10 to 20 seconds. I changed the plugs, wires, fuel pump and crank position sensor but still does the same thing. Also the engine light is not on and no codes come up on the diagnostics tester. Does anyone know what might be wrong?

If it is stalling just at idle you probably need to clean the throttle body. They get so carboned up it will stall the engine.

Does it have gas?

Maybe you have water or diesel fuel in the gas. Surprising you don't have a code.

still no luck

ok so now I removed the throttle body and cleaned it and still the truck wont start. Any other ideas because I am fresh out.

Fuel pressure regulator? Pull the vacuum line and see if it has any gas in it. I would also check the fuel pressure.

I had checked the fuel pressure prior to changing the fuel pump. It was at about 56psi. The spec says it should be around 55 to 62. I still changed the pump because the lines on it were pretty bad and it was only a matter of time before i would have to anyway. The fuel pressure is still good after the pump change.

I am assuming it is gas related since it will start then stall. Usually if you don't have spark it won't ever start. The only other thing I can think of is a coolant temp. sensor. I haven't had one go out on the newer trucks, but it is common on the 88-99 models.
When it does start how does it run before it stalls?

Sounds like a crank sensor... sometimes cranks... sometimes runs for 20 sec ect.

ok so I put the fuel pressure gauge back on it and the pressure goes up to 60psi but then it drops right back down to zero. This isn't correct is it? Shouldn't it stay at 60? would this be caused by the pressure regulator? When the truck does start it seems to run smooth for the short time it is running but the it is like it is out of gas and dies.
