LT or P Tires

Hey all, I need your help with a decision. I'm getting ready to purchase a new set of tires for my '04 Z71 EC. I'm getting 285/70/17 Firestone Destination A/T's, I just can't decide whether to get the Light Truck tire (LT, class D) or the Passenger (p rating) tire.

What are your thoughts of running a LT tire vs. a P tire???

Im thinking you are going to want the LT (class d) tire. That is what i have always put on my trucks. It is made to handle the load are trucks can tow. Not sure if a passenger rating can. But i may be wrong.

I would choose the LT tires. The load range D will handle any and all loads you`ll ever put on a half ton. The only thing you`ll be giving up is ride quality due to the stiffer sidewall construction. But...I ran load range E on my 1/2 ton company truck and just kept the air pressure down to 45-50 psi unless I knew I was going to really load it down. You could do the same thing with the Range D`s.

i just put a set of LT range Es on mine and it really doesnt ride much different then the p series for me. i would stick with an Lt on any 4x4 tho i imagine youd get better life out of those. i seem to tear up p tires really quick myself.

If you hardly ever haul or tow anything then the P rated will do just fine. If you do, the LT would be better as it will hold up to more abuse and heavy loads.

I went ahead and got the D-range LT's. It rides a little firmer, but I like it. The backend doesn't bounce like it did before. I also cranked the torsion bars too. The truck looks so much better now.
