Make truck faster?

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 V8 5.3L engine. I want to make my truck faster and I was told that I should buy a cold-air intake system. I already have a new true dual exhaust system. I want to make my truck faster but I don't want to do any damage to my truck either. What is the best cold-air intake system for the price, and what else is there to do that would make my truck be a little faster than my friends? I heard that programmers/chips help, which are the best for those?

The best cold air intake is the one you already have on the truck. I wouldn't waist money on one personally. I have bought trucks with them installed and could not tell a difference from the ones without them (besides the noise). I would have a custom tune done - best bang for the buck. Cheaper than a CAI and you will actually see inprovements.

agreed, I too have spent money on Exhaust and a Banks Cold Air Intake and didn't notice much performance increase. I wound up trading in my '08 1500 with 5.3 in for an '11 1500 with the 6.2 L engine in it. Now boy its fun- yee haw
