So are we now ruling out a timing or crank sensor issue? Or could that also be a likely cause? I might have my local shop look at it (owner and main mechanic is a friend so he won't screw me.) Then they could check the pressure and do all the diagnostic work and tell me what they think is wrong. Plus the owner has almost the exact twin to my truck so he might have some clues from the get go.

no not yet but I think its looking more like a fuel issue.............does it throw any codes? (I cant remember) does it miss when cold?

Have your ignition coil, and timing checked, If its not to much just change the coil. I had problems with one and had it tested, they said it was good but it wasn't.

As of now, no codes thrown. After work tomorrow I'll run the code reader again and update you. It still does do the misfire (that's really the closest thing I can explain it as) when it is cold but I can get it up to about 4500 instead of 4000. When warm (at normal operating temp) the truck usually will go to about 3800. When the tank is low, it doesn't even go to that (2800) and that is also at normal operating temp. I thought the coil would either work or not work. I'll check and see the price. My parts place usually will let me get a part, put it on, then take it back if it doesn't fix the problem. So I'll try the coil.

have the fuel preassure checked!!!!!!!!! most places rent stuff like that....I bet you will find that your preasure is dropping off and you need a pump

I must of missed the low tank thing. Id say it is fuel related for sure. Is it putting out allot of fumes when its cold? Sounds like its might be running rich till it warms up.

I checked the codes again today. None. The parts store didn't have any fuel pressure testers so I'll have to wait on that. I really do think its a fuel pump problem because the gas guage vibrates like a hummingbird and I noticed it will go down pretty quick from full to empty but only take 15 gallons to fill back up. It's a 34 gallon tank so that's for sure a problem too. I think they both are problems with the fuel pump. The pump does have a fuel level sensor attached to it along with the actual pump part, right? I've never had a fuel pump act like this on any vehicle I've driven. It's always just quit working at supermarket parking lots. hmmm......idk. I wish I could have gotten that pressure tester today. And I can't really tell about the fumes thing, I really haven't paid attention to whether it puts out any fumes when its warm outside: its usually cold outside when I first start the truck so it looks like fumes every morning.

Allot of people have the same gas gauge thing going on. One of my friends Z71 has the same thing and she just waits till the low fuel light comes on to get gas.

So I checked my fuel pressure today. If I just turn the key on, it goes to around 56 or 58 psi. Then While idling, it is about 52 or so. When I step on the gas, it drops to about 45 then jumps to 60. At 4000 rpm, it is hanging at around 45 maybe a little lower. So does this sound like a fuel issue when these stats are added? I noticed the fuel pump pretty much didn't increase the pressure when I got to 4000 rpm like it does at lower rpm.
