Need expert advise from GMC Owners!

I'm a life long ford owner, but i'm currnetly seriously interested in buying a 1998 GMC Sierra 2500.

Not having any prior experience with GMC's, i'd like to know to watch out for with these models. Potential "snakes in the grass" if you will.

Some concerns:
During my test drive; after checking out the 4WD and switching back to 2HI, the truck drove very sluggishly and underpowered. I limped it back to the dealership where it stayed running-albeit very poorly. It would not restart after shutdown and they later found the alternater konked-out and replaced it. Runs fine now and being an aircraft mechanic i can see this a pluasible fix.

Can anyone think of any systemic issues i should look out for with these models?

Thanks!
Dustin

New/Used GMC truck.

I have a 1993 GMC and I just replaced the tensor pulley there dirty cheap and if it were to freeze up in the middle of no where your stuck. Also you might want to replace your front brake rubber lines. Oh my fuel pump just went out it's in the gas tank now my truck has 167,000 miles so that's when you might start having problems with it my buddies went out at the same miles also buy a Delphi instead of some Auto Zone brand I have heard that they go out fast. Maybe replace all your water hoses & stat.

There is a "sticky" thread in the Chevy Silverado forum that you might want to read up on. We have made a list of all the Common Chevy & GMC Issues.
