Need to get the gremlins out of my truck!
Okay, I am a proud owner of a2001 2500HD with the 8.1motor and have been the only owner since new. The only issue I had was the Firestones tires that came on it started to crack real bad and eventually started showing splits with only 40K miles on them. Dealer replaced them so I was big, fat, and happy again.I once used mytruck as my daily ride but lately(like over the last year+ now) with gas prices through the roof I ride my motorcycle a lot.Fortunately no snow in CT these days so it works for now. Why am I going to this much detail? Just trying to explain thatthere are times the truck might sit for a week or so between runs and I think this is not always a good thing. Lately I have been having some reallystrange issues and I'm not sure they are related but I am thinking possibly something to do with theECU. The first issue I find is sometimes the truck can be completely dead. Open the door no dome light, stick the key in the ignition nothing, no accessories, completely dead. At first I thought it might be some security feature enabled due to the fact I keep my keys in my pocket and sometimes the little bottle opener on it hits the darn alarm button. Got rid of that thing and I think the neighbors are happier now but that's another story. So when the truck completely diesI go out under the hood, knock gently on the ECU unit, wiggle the wiring harness, shut the hood with a thump and it starts right up. Other times the Air Bag light will stay on for prolonged periods of time. Then the extreme happened the other night while driving I went to switch on the highbeams and every light in the dash lit up and stayed lit for about 30 seconds. Another timewhile starting the dash lights flickered on and off a few times and it went deadsame as before then the truck started but could not keep running.I had to restart it a few times before it finally caught. I looked at the clock on the radio and it jumped back an hour as if the truck reverted back to a time before I reset the clock for daylight savings. Crazy I know but how else do I explain the clock going back one hour. I think this next issue is maybe a separate issue where the ABS hung up on me while pulling out of my driveway into the street. Yeah almost took a bite out of the steering wheel then it released and then it grabbed back on again and eventually stopped coming on...Not the first time I had that darn ABS light coming on but it was the first time that the truck actually halted.Here's whyI think the ABS issueis separate, I use the emergency brake while the truck is parked in the sloped driveway. I am thinking from sitting the brakes are hanging up justenough to trigger theABS system. I'm still a little baffled by the ignition and dash lights going crazy but that's where the internet comes in handy. Has anyoneever experienced some of these issues?Arethe gremlins in my truck going to take it over?Any ideas on what the heck is goingon would be appreciated...
im thinking you have some loose electrical connections, the last time i tighted the side posts on my battery my lights didnt flicker as much pulling into the driveway and reversing into my gravel parking spot. she likes to dim the headlights everytime i switch from drive to reverse.
i have a 2001 2500hd with the 6.0L with 150k on it. i had to replace the battery terminals last spring and my truck was doing some of the same things yours is doing now. if the connection on the battery isnt consistent it can play hell with the electrical system. so id start there and if that doesnt help check for any fraid wires or loose connections or corrosion in any of the connections. as far as your abs goes my truck will do the same thing and that problem is yourwheel speed sensors in in the front unit bearings, they are probably a bit rusty from sitting or the seal is bad on the bearing and the sensor is dirty in either case it will cause the sensor to read the speedat the wheels incorrectly which will engage the abs. hope that helps.
