Default Need help picking cam

I just picked up a mint 2011 GMC sierra 1500 with the LC9 engine and 6L80 (MYC) transmission. I don't feel like the aluminum block is really the best candidate to boost, so i'm trying to find a way to get more low end power and torque for daily driving fun. Which leads me to needing help with cams. From what I've read in other forums and just through general googling, increasing the valve openings duration with a bigger cam takes away low end power, and re adds it to the top end, which is the opposite of what I want basically. (Is that true?) Because I don't care about top end power in a truck if its going to lope and be sluggish in that 0-60 range. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.
