need some insight
 

hello, i have a 2008 silverado. my father had two fog lights behind the grill and where not hooked up ( basically for show), he cut the wires off, but not to the point where there not usable . What I'm going to do now is get them working. but I didnt know if it was a good idea to tap into my head lights so the always on or hook them up another way. any ideas ?? thanks alot

I'd say tap into the fog light wires. I'm unsure if your truck has a separate fog light switch or not. If not, I'd say get yourself a nice toggle switch and put it somewhere nice on the dash and do your own wiring. That way you can choose to have them on or off, regardless of the DRL lights.

i dont think it does :( ... see im good at tapping into wires but as far as making my own toggle switches and hooking up to battery im not that great :(

Well can you follow a wiring schematic? I can draw one up for you if you'd like. You'll need to buy two different color wires for schematic clarity, a switch, fuse and fuse holder, possibly a relay, some wire butt connectors, a crimper tool if you don't have one and a drill.

It isn't as hard as it sounds, and I can walk you through it, but you'll need patience. I can also explain how to read my schematic after I create it.

Okay, I'd say get a spool of black, and a spool of red wire, both should be probably be 14 gauge wire. Make sure to get a fuse holder that's sealable with a blade type fuse, as I personally like those better, and you can get a replacement fuse easier. Pick up some butt connectors like these. Make sure the stuff you're picking out can handle 14 gauge wire. I'm not sure of your selection of relays, but it can be done without if you'd like.

Let me know what you've got, and I'll write up a wiring schematic.

ok im going to get the items now, and as for the two ground wires.. theres an almost to good to be true perfect spot so that wont be a problem, but i was going to put the two ground wires into one single Dorman/Conduct-Tite 16-14 gauge blue 1/4 in. ring gold plated terminal would that be ok or should i do them separate

I have the switch on the ground side, because I figure it's probably better to keep non-lethal wires out of the cabin if you're not going to use a relay. If you want a relay, I can draw that up too. A relay would allow for a low amperage circuit to control your "high" amperage circuit, thus keeping "dangerous" wires out of your dashboard. It's up to you, but the schematic I made is probably the easiest way I can think of it do it.

awsome, have a fuse holder and fuse, and all the wires black/ red.. butt connectors, and switch , the relay i couldnt find, but i have to go back anyway so ill check. ... the only problem i have is connecting to the battery, im not to experienced when it comes to that. i saw the schematic you have and i understand all of it, but had a question. do i have to run another ground wire from the battery ?
