New best 1/4 mile time...

So... I went to the track on Saturday and ran the truck in some cooler weather...(like 70 degrees)... Since the last time I ran it was like 90+...

The fastest time I got was a 14.714 @93.50mph... Not bad for $600 worth of mods...

BTW I ran with a 1/2 tank of gas...

What is the "air gap" mod?

What is the "air gap" mod?

This:

3. "Air Gap Manifold"- Locatedunderneath the throttle body, under the intake manifold and above the lifter valley, there is a little insulating pad that helps cold starting and warmup. In environments were this is not needed, it can be removed, it's your decision. Just unhook your intake hose from the throttle body, move it up and out of the way, and you'll see it. On the back side of your engine, there is another one. Just climb up there, reach around, and pull it out. This one won't come out as easily, but it's still not too hard. Next, remove your engine cover from the top of your engine. There is about 3/8" of insulation on the underside that is good for cold weather, but that's it. These can comeoff andgo backon andgo in and outany time you want. The cover has a bolt on the top and little clips on the back. Money saved- N/A, to the best of my knowledge, nobody makes an Air Gap manifold for the LS1 series engine.

I have had those pads out for several months with no issues. It is similar to the old high rise intake.

The minimal to non-existent gains of taking that foam out aren't worth risking water getting in there and corroding the knock sensors in my opinion. It's a pricey and annoying problem to have to fix. It may take longer than a few months to develop but it will develop.

exactly. and around here i dont know how many knock sensors ive seen get water and go bad with those foam pads still there. but hey if your lucky enough to make it this far then hats off to ya. its just like trucks off the production line. some just are defective right off the line and others will run forever with no problems.
