New here, with question,
I recently purchased a 09 Silverado 1500, 4X4, ext cab, 5.3 V8, auto. - It has a tow pkg with a 6,000 lb., rated, tow hitch - not a HD trailer pkg. I tow a Bri-Mar 10,000 lb., rated, dump trailer. The empty trailer weighs 2,320 lbs. I occasionally haul 2-3 tons of gravel etc. (4,000 - 6,000 lbs). - Should I upgrade to a higher rated hitch ? - OR - Is there enough "built in" safety factor in the 6,000 lb hitch, to cover me ? -- --

I'm with everybody else on this one, upgrade. It would be cheaper than having an accident that's for sure.

Found one
I've found a class IV, 10,000 lb. GTW hitch made by Curt Mfg. that fits without modification and allows the spare to remain in the stock position. - Thanks for all of the input.
