New to online forums.
Hey guy and girls.. I'm new to this so if I'm doing something wrong, please forgive me. I have a 2000 gmc 2500 classic with 240k on it. Lately I've been having starter problems. About a year ago my starter bolts rusted out and the starter fell out of the truck. I replaced the starter and bolts. 6 months later the starter started grinding so I replaced that one. Now i only get a month out of a starter before it grinds.
I've inspected the fly wheel and it looks good. With this truck being a split year it's always a pain to get parts. I've been told I could be getting the wrong staters from napa. I have a 167 tooth fly wheel. Can anyone tell me what starter I can put in there.? Thanks Scott. |
When the mounting bolt rusted out... what was done to repair it after the starter fell off?

I put helicoils in.

They are the same thread pitch as the starter bolt u would get from GM.

If the flywheel looks good as you say then my guess is that the starters are faulty since they work OK for a month or better. I'd get one from the GMC dealer. I had similar problems with alternators on my 91 chevy until I got one from the chevy dealer.

That's what I'm gona do. GM starter is about $300. I hope this fixes it lol.. I hate to sell it since I do plow with it. I just put new heads, headers and plugs in it. Body and frame are still in good shape. If anyone else has any info I would appreciate it.. Thank u for your inputs.
