new silverado 5.3ltr question
I was told when I bought my truck that it had the upgraded engine in it, the 5.3 with active fuel management. However my friend said that I dont because i dont have the buttons on the side of the dash that I guess say my MPG and such, and also tells you when that active fuel management kicks in. All I have is the standard tripometer butten in the center of the dash. Does anyone know if he is right? Or how can I look up the vin to see what engine I really do have? If I dont have that with the 6speed auto tranny I am going to be pretty pissed because thats the main reason I bought this truck.

did you get the window sticker with the truck? if so check there. I thought all the new model chevys had that, even with the 4 or 5 speed.
|
No they didnt give me the sticker, but I saw a print out and it said it had it.
|
Then you should be golden man.
|
Also, just think about it this way. Those buttons your friend was telling you about that you dont have. Its just another headache waiting to happen for the one with them.
|
I think the buttons he referred to are there depending on the model truck it is. Mine is an LTZ and it does have the buttons and I can display whether it is running on 4 or 8 cylinders. If your truck doesn't have the buttons, there may be another way to call up the display. Check your owner's manual. Good luck.

the buttons are the dic, driver information center, it has nothing to do with what engine you have or could get. it justdepends on what package you have. in the new trucks it can be added for about $100 or so.

Use the codes inside the glove compartment to see everything your truck has. Paint, gear ratio, transmission, etc.

4 or 8
My 09, 5.3, with active fuel management shows either 4 cyl or 8, on the speedometer area, depending upon the strain thats put onto the engine. Apparently fuel is being sent to either 4 cylinders or 8, depending on the load, that's being put on the engine. ---- Other comments, please.

Ok, lets hear some honest fuel economy numbers from the folks that AFM.
And not just hype because you want to think your truck is ever going to get mileage like a Prius. If you didn't get AFM big deal consider yourself better off from potential long term problems. Now if you didn't get the 6 speed transmission, Bummer Eddie, Give us some feed back on your mpg vp |
