new truck need info
 

i just bought a 97 gmc sierra k1500 and im am looking to find out the specs on the truck. what drivetrain, what body type stuff like that. how do I find out all this stuff. it also has a z71 sticker on it how do I know if it a true z71 or just a sticker???? please help!!

A Z71 is a 4x4 so if you have the ability to shift into 4 wheel drive it's probably a Z71. The main differences between a reg 4x4 and a Z71 was a few suspension upgrades. Also the Z71 had a skid plate under the engine where a reg 4x4 didn't usually until a few years ago. The engine should have a sticker that says 5.7L or 5.3L, not sure when they changed. But read the stickers in the engine area and on the drivers door and look in the glove box. Buy a Chilton or Haynes manual at a auto parts store. I think they will give info on reading the VIN number. Also do a google search for the info you are looking for.
