well i guess that trying to fix my own 4wd is a real pain Itryed to install a used switch motor and the 4wd would not fit so i put the origional back in. my 4wd started to work for a day them it stopped for a couple of hrs then it worked again. I got a new shift motor and now it doesn't work at all. would this be wireing i also replaced the TCCM with no luck. my truck is a 2004 sierra crew with short box 6L engine

Another newbie checking in. Have a 1993 Sierra K1500. Was my father-in-laws,I just bought for a dollar in april. My dipstck sister-in-law was going to give it to charity. Had some problems, timing off 10 degrees, loose exhaust manifold and had to start off by powerwashing the mold and grunge off of it. Thats due to three crack head brother-in-laws getting a hold of it before I did. Having a blast upgrading and improving the girl with no wild modifications in mind.

Checkin' in as a newb to this forum. Bought a 1998 GMC K2500 yesterday and dropped it off at my trusted mechanics place. Approx. 223,000km's [Canadian Truck] on the 5.7L, SL package work truck, extended cab, short box.

Appears to be in pretty good shape all things considered. My mechanic is in the process of replacing:
  • Rear brake pads
  • Tie rod ends
  • Upper ball joints
  • Fuel pump
  • Interior door handles
  • Door pins
  • Motor mounts
  • Probably drive line U-joints
Also dumping all the fluids and starting fresh with a general tune-up. The guy I bought it from seems like a really good guy, honest & trust worthy; but I still like to give any machine I buy used a good once over and clean-up. Gives me more confidence in trusting the machine to do want I want it to accomplish.

Truth be known, I haven't really had the opportunity to get very familiar with this truck yet. All in good time. I really like it so far and plan on keeping it quite a while.

Checking in.

My Dad gave me his 2006 GMC sierra Hybrid, the truck runs great, 2wd, 30,000 miles with all the maintenance up to date with the exception of filling the washer reservoir and replacing the wipers. I literally have only $97 dollars for tags and 20 bucks for a manual, and 2 tanks of gas into this truck. I am trying to find information specific to the first generation GMC/Chevy hybrid trucks. I am kind of hoping that someone has a website out there. I am not really impressed by the Hybrid portion and would like to no if there is a method for disabling the auto engine stop and start functions. Using the tow/haul button does this but it also causes the transmission to shift differently. Anyway, any help with this truck would be appreciated, it has the 5.3 Vortec engine and as I said, drives like a dream. Edd.

I’m a Chevy lifer. Let’s see , what I can say about my truck. I know

Why my Chevy Truck is better than my wife…

Because She always looks good first thing in the morning

Because She always makes me look good

Because She always makes me smile when I see her in the morning

Because She make me feel good when I’m in side her

And because She gets up and goes when I want her to

Well appearently I'm a slow learner ha. I posted/introduced myself in the "general truck forum" and didn't in the "Chevy" forum..oops. My name is Jay, I'm 26 and a fellow Marine. I drive/own a 99 Silverado ls 4.8 V8 4x4 (Maroon). I will try and post pics soon enough of my baby. I basically joined the sight to get tips and hints from fellow Silverado owners. I plan on taking the next few years and turn it into a show truck or my fiance and I's "date night" vehicle :-).

Hey, I just bought a brand new 2011 Sierra 1500 Nevada Edition, and was just looking for people with likewise vehicle interest. I upgraded from a tiny little Hyundai Elantra so I'm still getting used to parking it.

Well, maybe I can't promise no stupid questions. Thank you for being HERE.

Hi all,

Thought I would check in with this forum now that I am a proud owner of a 2011 Sierra. Picking it up tomorrow night!

I'm moving up from a 2006 Colorado; with that thing I needed a forum like this on a regular basis to help with all the fixes and problems that thing had. I hope to not need this forum as much for the problems but use it more for the fun stuff!

I don't even have the truck yet and already I've been helped out by searching this forum! Thanks in advance for your help and information.

Here's a pic of it on the dealer's lot right after I test drove it:

Vancefish 03-31-2011 08:27 PM

Howdy All!!

I just bought a 2000 Sierra SLT 3 door with a 4.8ltr. I paid $900!!

However the previous owner (my ex-step father) took it out for some DUI's!

The worst is the passenger door, Mashed in at the bottom. It'll open from the inside, but not the outside. (Historically, but not today:confused:) The window works, but stops halfway.

Obviously the radiator support is a little bent, as is the hood, bumper,...

Just behind the third door on the passenger side is his only accident involving another car. Somehow he clipped it, which pressed in that quarter panel in front of the wheel.

Both the third door window and the rear windshield are gone.

It has 176K, Fully loaded, and runs great.

Oh, and I'll need both front lower control arms. Both were bent hitting rocks. They are not really bad, but the alignment is off and I can see the hits they took pretty easily.

I'm sure some of my questions will be answered here. I also just watched the video on Trucks fixing the cab of a truck just like mine!:D

I'd add a pic or two but it's to dark. Tomorrow!!

Kellie 04-03-2011 11:04 AM

I am new too...

I am here to ask a specific door chimer question...off to ask :~)

Downsizing from a 2006 Dodge Megacab diesel. Always told myself if I ever bought a 1/2 ton it would be a GM product. Found a 1 owner P/U and looking forward to putting some miles on it. Only issue I can see is the passenger door lock motor makes a grinding noise.

GMC2011 04-08-2011 09:14 PM

Just recently sold my 2000 GMC Sierra ext cab 4x4 and bought a brand new 2011 GMC Sierra crew cab Z71 4x4...and man is it sweet! Anyway, I'm new and wanted to say hello...

Just got here. Read thru some older posts. Good answers. Nice forum.

I have a 2004 Silverado pickup, 1995 Van, 1991 Suburban and 1990 Suburban. Wonder why it took me so long to register.

Hi all! My name is Dan and I like trucks! :)

I will allow you to refer to me as a newb on this forum; but rest assured I am not a newb to trucks, cars or life. I would love to trim 30 years off my current position and be referred to as a newb. :D

Most recent addition is a 2000 Sierra, 5.3l with a handful of issues due to a lack of maintenance and care. These issues will be resolved over a period of time.

Looking forward to receiving and giving help when needed.

Thanks

Dan

My name is Jack and just bought a 1985 Silverado 350/350 with a Edelbrock Intake and Headers with 20,500 miles on the motor and trans.
The reason we got the truck is to haul stuff from the big city since our 2011 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid won't haul anything and we didn't want to put a trailer hitch on it.

Hi all, I am Steve, I drive a 1990 Suburban with a 454, and a GearVendor Overdrive. The Suburban has always been parked in the garage when not on the road, but still had to have the "Up" surfaces repainted a couple of years ago do to clear-coat oxidation.
Bought it new, for trailering while the family was growing. About 140Kmiles, as is my favorite car to drive. Although now I only average about 1,000 miles a year on in.

Hi yall, names Nate. Got a 1995 Chevy K1500 in the spring as a summer project/ future daily driver (lol, not the best thing to get for a DD). Once I finish it up I'm going to park the 2000 Z-28 and get to fixing it up as well. From Nebraska and look forward to being here!

JohnBinTN 07-02-2011 12:08 AM

Hey y'all - John in bufu Tennessee. Just got a 1994 Sierra 2500 beast on Monday (first truck ever!). It's definitely a fixer-upper (yay!). It has 134,000 (234,000, 334,000? - OD exempt). Eats gas like a pig, previous owner smelled like my grandparents, apparantly, and it leaks oil (just a little - not as much as I made the previous owner believe). :) Runs like a charm, though, and looks like it's been battle tested.

So far, all I know is it's nice to have a truck (everyone seems to have one in TN), and that truck parts are freeking expensive! ;)

I'm a decent mechanic, so-so HVAC tech, super-duper carpenter, Johnny-on-the-spot network engineer, and I write books. Happy to find this site. Hope to find my bed bolts tomorrow morning. ;)

John

Good to meet you all. I'm new to the site but have been doing paint, body and restoration work on and off for about 25 years. Like most of you I have an affliction, an addiction with the automobile and a fan of American V8 power. I look forward to learning and being able to help out by sharing my knowledge......... Not to mention have some laughs along the way.
