no spark
91 silverado, got it to crank over but wont fire....what are some things to check without replacing parts?
Thanks |
RE: no spark
Are you sure it's a spark problem and not a fuel problem?
|
RE: no spark
Are you getting spark out of the coil?
|
RE: no spark
we poured some gas down the tbi, you'd think it'd at least fire with that if spark was there, I havent checked the coil, how would you do that? a inline spark tester that lights up?
|
RE: no spark
yes, a test light would work or you could even stick a screw driver in it and see if you are getting any spark. If you have spark coming out of your coil, then check at the plugs. Just pull a plug and put back in the spark plug wire and hold it against a ground and see if you are getting any spark at the electrode. If no spark there, then it maybe a control module in the distrib

RE: no spark
used a inline spark light and there was no spark between the coil and distributor...so I assume the coil is bad?
|
RE: no spark
not necessarily..the coil gets it signal to spark from the pick-up coil inside the distributor... the only way to really check these is....check for an a/c volt signal from the pickup coil to the ignition coil....then spark from the coil to cap...then from cap to plug wire. but yes,the coil could well be bad |
RE: no spark
Hey, just getting back to working on this for a friend. I did try a new coil since the old one failed one of the tests in the haynes manual. Anyways it didn't spark. Can I use a meter to check the a/c volt signal from the pickup coil to the ignition coil? What reading should I look for? Its a pain to get over there so I'd like to have some options and parts ready so I don't have to make multiple trips.
Thanks for any help |
