o2 sensor, smog question

The smog guy told me the truck (03 silverado 4WD 1500 6.0) wont pass because code B1S1 or B151 (i cant read his writing). He said it needs new o2 sensor. I havnt been able to check yet but isnt there more than one o2 sensor. If so can anyone tell me which one might be the right one to change. Or what steps I should take next. I would also need to clear the check engine light also.

Also, Im thinking about buying a code scanner/analyzer. Any suggestions on a brand or model to get.

Thanks,
Big D

code is B1S1 (bank 1 sensor 1).its driver side before the cat.you can take a meter and o2 sensor before cat should read 450 millavolts, after the cat should be below 450 millavolts.try swaping the 2 front sensors and the code should read B1S2 if the sensor is bad.if the code stays the same then your lean or cat is semipluged, and the sensor is good.

Checking the voltage in my 03 silverado on my DLC (data link connector) I only read .020 volts. In my 01 blazer it read over 12 volts. My Actron scanner dosnt recognized anything when plugged into the silverado but works fine on the blazer. where do I go from here.

are you saying that the anilyzer isnt working on your 03.the voltage you got across the b1s1 was low it should be .045 or real close (+/- .005)

You need to check AT the sensor NOT the DLC.....does your cigarrete lighter work???? if not you have a bad fuse and the DLC wont work either (most of the time)

I was checking the voltage on the DLC to see if IT was working. Not checking any codes yet, because I was suspious of the DLC not working properly. Just trying to use my new scanner. My light hasnt worked in years. So I'll check my fuses in the morning and let you know how it went.

I appreciate the info guys, THANKS.

ok cool...the readings that 20"strong gave you were at the sensor....but Im a little bit concerned about how the smog guy got the code if your DLC is not working....sounds alittle bit "funny" to me

DeeDog55 03-06-2009 01:31 PM

Exactly! But this morning I replaced the BLOWN fuse for lighter and the DLC worked. And the smog guy was right, code p0135 (b1s1) and p1518 came up. So Im checking the meter on the o2 sensors now and looking into this p1518 code.

Thanks guys
D
