Off road tires

Hi, I just purchased a 2006 2500 HD ext 4x4 Silverado LT-3. It has the LT3 wheels on it, but she came with street tires. I want to put sometype of an off road tire on her to make her look less Blah!. What size tire will will fit on the stock wheels? Who makes a good off road tire? Any help would be great.

RE: Off road tires

Without any mods, the biggest you can go is 285/75/16. if you want to trim the bumper plastic and play with the tor bars, you can get a 315 under it, but you rub some turning. The less aggressive the tire the bigger you can go because of sidelugs. i have the 285s on my 05 with no mods and no clearence problems. I put BIG O BIGFOOT XT on mine, they were cheaper than the BFG TAs and had a better wattanty. They look like a cross between the BFG mudd and all terrain, which are also great.

RE: Off road tires

I have the BFG Long Trail TA's. They are slightly aggressive looking but not too much. They are a nice balance between on and off road. I have experienced good treadlife and they came in a D load rating which I needed.
