Oil leak from top of engine - 2005 5.3 Silverado 1500 ?

Howdy,

I have a
2005 Silverado Truck
4 Wheel drive
5.3
1500

In the last few days I've noticed an oil leak that seems to be leaking under the intake manifold towards the back top of the engine. Just curious if anyone here has dealt with this before and where the problem could be originating from?

Also, are there any FREE online Chevrolet 1500 trucks "HOW TO" guides as far as tearing this area apart? I think Chilton or other manuals online cost lots of money. I called a local shop and they wanted about $800.00-$1500.00 to fix it, and I can not afford that at this time....or any other time, for that matter.

I thought maybe the valve gasket cover has blown.

Thank you for any help anyone can give me. :)

I just fixed a 2003 Tahoe 5.3 that had a similar oil leak as your describing. It was simply the oil pressure sender on the back of the motor. You just have to remove the plastic engine cover (one - 8MM bolt) and then remove the sender. It is a little bit of a hassle the first time, but since I got a bad sender at first and had to R&R it twice the second time literally took me 5 minutes. If you have a mirror you can look down back there and should be very obvious whether it is the culprit or not. Mine had quite a build-up around it.
