The prep will be easy. Put a cup of liquid tide in a car wash bucket. Fill it up with water and wetsand the whole truck with 400, then 600. The tide will remove all the contaminants from the surface giving you a clean slate to paint.

The red would be ok,,,, personally I like a charcoal or titanium with black. It's a bit more subtle but just enough to break up all that black.

Even better, find a pinstriper to paint them on after the basecoat, then clear the truck. You don't have to worry about them peeling off and they will give a layered effect being under the clearcoat.

Because the stripes would be painted on, not the vnyl pinstripes. Plus being under the clear gives them more protection. Go with a high solids clear too. It will give more uv protection and overall durability. If it was a show vehicle, I'd recommend House of Color for the clear, it wetsands and buffs out beautifully but not the best for an every day vehicle that will be exposed to everything.

I just loaded a few pics of some cars I've built, all 3 were show winners respectively. The 73 Roadrunner took best in class at World of wheels here in Indy 3 years ago and the 71 Torino took 2nd at the Shelby reunion tour also in Indy. The 69 Grand Prix Model J took 2nd at a couple local showd and presented at James Dean festival two years in a row
