performance chip help!!
hey i have a 2000 silverado 1500 with a 4.8 in it.... i was wondering if i should go with a superchips programmer or a hypertech... also do you have to replace the thermostat with it??? please help me thanks!
go with a performance tune only. My tune is made to use 87-91 octane and I can tell a difference which I run in it too. Handheld programmers just don't give you enough gains. I gained around 30 rwhp with the tune I added. Not for sure what the other mods added. I did them some time before the tune.
If you are looking for some thing to just plug and go than go with the superchip or hypertech progamer. i own both and did testing on them using are dyno at the college i attend. both deliver near the same performance, but the superchips did come out on top by 2 hp on both the 87 and the 91 octane progam. the problem with both progamers are, they can't be updated unless you send them back the company unlike a diablosport tuner which allows you to download new progams or do custom tuning with the same plug and go, but with more options.
I got my 03 5.3 custom tuned by goodguysgarage.net and I have never looked back, I can do top fuel burnouts any time and kill a HEMI without even pushing my new race button (tow/haul), they promised to out perform my hypertech or my money back and now the hand held is on ebay, that thing couldnt come close to what they did for my performance, with a mpg increase. If it was me I would go with them, either online or call like I did 316-258-0358 if i change anything, updates are free, FREE!!! Worth every penny, great product and service to match.
chevy1224 - the race tow/haul button is part of the custom tune if you ask for it. But it takes away towing feature. If you use the race option you should not use this button if you plan to tow anything.
