Potential Silverado Owner Questions?
 

• I'm considering purchasing a 2000 Silverado 1500 Reg Cab w/ 4.3l V6.
• Is this motor powerful enough for this truck? I only plan doing some light towing (16 ft jonboat).
• Is there anything I should pay close attention too before purchasing?
• Are there any common problems with these older trucks I should be aware of before purchasing?

I would greatly appreciate any additional insight shared.

In my opinion, the motor is NOT powerful enough for that truck. It would be if you were just using it as a commuter, but as soon as you throw anything behind it you will regret it.

I would stay away mostly because I hate V6 trucks, and you should be able to find one with a 5.3 easily enough.

Have you checked Craigslist?

If you are only pulling a jon boat the 4.3 has plenty of power - trust me. If you are leaning towards the 4.3 with gas mileage in mind then get a V-8. They get basically the same mileage, but if you have found a good deal on a V-6 truck get it.
