Hydroboost is a is a brake system that uses power steering pump pressure to provide power to the brake system. The easiest way to tell is to look at the brake master cylinder. If it does not have the big drum vacuum boost unit between the firewall and the master cylinder, but instead there is a unit there that has pressure hoses running to the power steering pump then you have hydroboost .

Cheers

I had a 04 Avalanche 1500 that had it. I couldn't tell that it was any better than the vacuum type.

Ok,no hydroboost..yes,that pretty much sums it up to a bad pump...a tricky, but not impossible repair

O yea.. Changing it isn't fun! make sure you get a good pully puller. One without stripped threads on the bolt! Have some extra power steering fluid too and its really easy until you have to remove the pump. The angle has to be exact to get it in AND out. Only part that will piss you off. Promise :)
