Default Random headlights

I have a 1999 Silverado, and just recently the headlights have decided to come one whenever there is a lot of snow/rain. The lights will come on even if the keys aren't in the ignition. Once they come on they will not go off, so the only way to kill the lights is to unhook the battery. This has happened a couple of times just after we recieved a lot of wet and heavy snow.
I have a feeling its something to do with the light sensor on the dash and a possible leak. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone had any solutions or places to start looking?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like the light sensor......the next time this happens use a flash light to shine on the sensor and see if the lights turn off......if they dont you have found the beginning of your problem.........if they do then you have a diffrent problem
