Rear brake problem
 

I have a 1990 c1500 pickup. 2 WD V8. I had not driven it in a while and took it into town. Backing out of a parking space I realized that the rear brakes were on and very hot. Had it towed home and got a mechanic to redo the rear brakes. he thought things were rusty from little use.

He also disconnected the emerbency brake cables because he thought these were rusted.

I recently had the same problem and burned up the new shoes. I am starting to suspect this is an ABS problem and the rear brakes are not releasing.

Pedal is mushy and it takes at least one pump of the pedal for strong braking.

Is it the ABS Dump valve? Can I take out the ABS and just hook up the lines to the master cylinder?

Help. I am trying to get this thing smogged in CA and I can't even get to to the smog test place.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but That truck shouldn't even have ABS. I don't think it was an option in 1990 because my 92 has the Silverado package and no ABS.

When the mechanic redid the brakes, did they replace the self-adjusters?

I am thinking of taking all the ABS stuff out and connecting to the master with some short braided steel lines.

Sucks man.. I like the short braided lines idea.. ABS is for (no offence to anyone, just calling the kettle black) asian females anyways...

I am trying to get in contact with a friend of mine that did these for me all the time. He had a way to bypass the antilock and it was a world of difference in the brakes. I know it involved some kind of adapter fitting at the module, but can't remember exactly what went where.
