Default Rear grinding noise when braking

'01 Silverado make a low grinding noise when braking. It's not the pads, rotors or emergancy brake shoes. Please tell me it could be something other than the wheel/axle bearings cause I really dont want to mess with that right now. The truck has 148k and has never had these bearings changed. How can I chack the bearings without taking the axle out?

I agree with the previous poster. With 148K on the chassis, it is most likely the bearings. Like him, that's where my money is at.

Usually with bad bearings the seals will go bad to, but I see nothing leaking. I can feel the bearing rolling when I turn the axle by hand. Its not as smooth as it should be. Guess ill be pulling this apart next weekend.
