Rearend fitment questions

I have a 1998 Chevy Silverado. Its 4X4 and the rear ratio is 3.73. The rearend is shot and I am looking for a replacement (i need the carrier as well as gears) From what I understand its the 8.5 10bolt rear in my truck. My question is whether a rear carrier from a ZR2 s-10 (not sure what year)would bolt into my rear. I don't know if the splines on the axles are the same or whether the carrier would be able to bolt in or not. I am not very sure about this area so any help would be greatly appreciated.
My uncle has a Limited slip carrier with the 3.73 ring and pinion that I can have but before I travel 300 miles or pay for shippng I want to make sure this will work for me.

RE: Rearend fitment questions

I would think they are 2 different animals, but i'm just guessing. I would look in junk yards, specially as your truck is an earlier model, JMO, Jim

RE: Rearend fitment questions

I would buy a new carrier, My carrier threw a berring about 2 years ago and thats why I have posi now instead of that stupid auto locking rear diff. I paid about 1100 for mine to be installed becouse I was not at my house or anywhere near it. Good luck with the fitting of that S-10 rear. I don't think they will fit, but I am not too positive about that.

RE: Rearend fitment questions

Yes, as long as the rearend is the 8.5 with 30spl you could use the carrier and gears. It would be out of a 95-2000 with the Z71opt/RPO G87
