Rebuilt tranny at 9000 miles..
Hey all.. I have a 2009 chevy silverado 5.3 liter.. Tranny lost 2nd and overdrive gears at 9000 miles after a road trip to colorado..
Anyway warranty covered it.. but now my confidence in it has wavered.. anyone else had anything like this happen? I've noticed it doesnt shift as hard when passing and it no longer makes a clunk sound when idling sometimes.. thanks for reading! |
After having the warrenty cover the repair is great, what did they "repair"? it sounds like it was an electrical issue. if you are concerned about the softer shift I would take it back and have them revisit the issue.....I put my money on a shift solinoid.

It was a total rebuild. They said it was cheaper doing the rebuild than installing a new one.

It was a total rebuild.

I read another story of a six speed going out at 1100 miles requiring a rebuild. I hope this isn't a trend because I have just bought an '09 with the 5.3 and six speed. Mine does have an occasional clunk somewhere around second gear when shifting up or down. Doesn't do it all the time but is usually when easing through the gears at slow speeds. I hope yours works out well.

hmmmm full rebuild.......sounds like GM will have to come up with some updates................ I would still ask them to check the line pressure on it and if its in the mid to low range ask them to turn it up a little....that will help with the soft shifts

Total rebuild means they fixed what broke and maybe a few other things to cover their *ss. They usually don't do a full rebuild.

Every now and then you get a faulty part. As many parts that go through the factory in my opinion they do an extremely fine job of keeping the duds to a minimum. One part goes bad, probably never see the problem again.

I have a 2001 silverado, and lost the tranny at 133,000, but started slipping around 10,000. I replace it.
