Default 1988 Chevy Truck.

I was looking for a work truck and found this on one of the forums I browse.

(it will be for my job as an installation tech for a contractor for ***)

Here's the exact words from the seller.

"I'm selling a 88 Chevy Pickup it's my father in laws work truck basically uses to get to and from work.
It's got a 5.7L engine, manual transmission, new radio, new speakers, new water pump, new ignition switch, new door locks, new passenger side door handle. Interior is about 6/10 the seat has a tear in it, it has some random door panels missing, and the paint isn't that great. Truck runs great reason he wants to sell it is to get a smaller car.
"

His initial asking price was $1500, but I beat him down to $1000.

Pics of the truck:

Good deal? He said it has 160,000 miles. and 2WD.

But I read some comment from his friends that said "Man that truck can burn some tires", and that got me a little worried, he says it's his father in laws truck but people are doing burnouts with it?

Any other questions I should ask him?

Thanks in advance for anybodies feedback.

Take it out and drive it, make sure it shifts up and down ok, starts and stops like it should etc etc. Do all the simple things too, let it sit and idle, make sure it doesn't overheat. Check lights and such and even take a peek under it to make sure it isn't too nasty. The seller shouldn't be too concerned with you wanting to check it out. Remember, it's your money and the most basic things, belts, hoses, even ligjts add up in the wallet.
