Security System Issue??
I have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L V8 that I was driving for the past few days without issue. Today I took it for a ride and stopped for gas, after paying I got in turned the key and nothing happened. I have power across the dash, the radio, headlights, hood lights and dome lights all work. I have a yellow security light that flashes upon entry to the vehicle in the message center. When I turn the key I don't her the syllanoid clicking and the truck doesn't even start to turn over. Could this be an electrical issue? A starter? An ignition switch? or A Problem with the security system? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I had that happen on my wife's Escalade and it was the starter. Luckily it happened in our driveway. I tapped the starter with a tire iron and it started right up. I thought it was just corrosion so I let her drive it. It was fine for about a month and it did it again. I remember that both times it did it it had rained the day she drove it home from work. I am not sure if that was coincidental or not but after the 2nd time I installed a new starter and it has been fine ever since. Hope this helps...good luck!
Does it matter if the door is open or closed? When I turn the key in the ignition the security light goes out and the battery light comes on. Do I need to turn the key far enough that I have to hold it or are you talking about turning it far enough that the power inside the car is on?
