Serpentine Belt Replacement
Hey guys, so I bought a replacement serpentine belt, went to put it on and it's just barely too short. It's about 3/4" shorter than the current one on... but the freaking packaging says for "Chevy 5.0L".
Is it safe or possible to adjust the tensioner pulley/take it apart and move it to fit it the belt? The pulley's spring loaded you lift with a socket and breaker bar. |
No, return the belt and get the right one. Make sure you have it routed right and it isn't riding on the lip of one of the pulley's - it doesn't take much to make them too short.

Yeah ... what Shamrock said.
It's easy to get them in the wrong spot, but you definitely need the right belt. |
that's what I get for going to Canadian Tire... Which is the equivelant to U.S. Walmart, except walmart always has sick deals on fluids n such.

Yep. You got the wrong belt. Get the right one and it'll go on pretty easy.
The only maintenance item I buy at Walmart is motor oil. I use Mobil One in all my gas trucks, and it's always cheaper at Walmart than anywhere else. The also have a 5 quart container that I haven't been able to find elsewhere. Everyone else has a 4 quart, and it costs about the same as Walmart's 5 quart container. Still need to buy an extra quart with the 5 qt container, though. |
