Sierra Rattle
I have a 2006 Sierra regular cab 2wd V6 with about 5500 miles. I have an unknown rattle that seems to be coming from under the dash on the drivers side. I've taken off various panels and gauges but to no avail. The sound could almost be coming from the steering column area as well, but it is hard to tell because the rattle only occurs during driving. The noise occurs more on rough roads. The noiseis alsomore noticable when driving slower speeds or coming to a stop, ( I think because of reduced engine noise). Any help would be appreciated, I am planning on taking it to the dealer but just wondering if its something simple or something Ive overlooked.

RE: Sierra Rattle
I too have a similar sounding clunking noise on my 2001 Sierrathat sounds like it is coming from the steering column but the truck has no performance problems when I hear it. I am interested to hear possible causes.......

RE: Sierra Rattle
I took the truck to the dealer, and they first lubed the intermediatesteering shaft and said the problem was fixed. Started to drive home and found that the sound was still there. I took it back and the dealer found what they call a loose "steering end cap" which they secured with foam tape, now the sound is gone.

RE: Sierra Rattle
The intermediate shaft on the 99 and up gm trucks were a common problem with making noise. Ive replaced a couple of them and they cost around 90 bucks.
