silverado shakes
i replaced them and the carrier bearing last year ,@ 15,ooo ago

TIE ROD ENDS !!!!!!!!!!! if you feel it in the steering wheel thats what it is.....or a bent rim is possible too
|
silverado shakes
im replacing the tie rod ends this weekend . i feel the shake in the steering and the cab but worse in the cab . i have 280,000 mi on it so the stuff needed to be replaced anyway. if that doesnt work next will be the sway arm bushings.
|
while you are under it check your motor and tranny mounts if one of these are bad it can cause a body shake too
|
silverado shakes
i have a buddy at chevrolet who gave me a great deal on a crate motor and tranny with chev warranty and all the mounts were replaced . and i checked them . this has been going on for a while. someone told me possobly the rack and pinion , floating rack? . dont know how to check it?.
but it does have 270,000 maybe need to replace it. |
no rack n pinion as far as i know....it sounds like a bad u joint tranny or motor mount loose front end parts or bent rim
|
Mine does the same thing. At 45 MPH. Every time like a bent rim. But I only feel it in the back. Im thinkin the carrier bearing.
|
silverado shakes
did my tie rod ends this morning . it helped a little. i remember when u could get tie rod ends for 8 bucks, now they are 55 bucks. now after the whole front end is finished , its time for alignment and i'll check my carrier too
|
Check your engine and tranny mounts again and see if your driveshaft is bent. Was it shaking before you put the new motor and tranny in too?
|
silverado shakes
i will check them tomorrow. yes it was shaking before the new motor and tranny . but it does feel like a bent rim or unbalanced tire . i already eliminated that, i changed wheels and tires and it still shook at the same speed 60 to 70
|
silverado shakes
well i checked my drive shaft and found a bad center u joint . i could feel the play in it so im doing them all and the carrier. they are not that old . the motor and tranny mounts were tight. cant get the carrier off so ill take it to work tomorrow.
|
silverado shakes
did my u joints and carrier but still shakes. dont know what else to replace
rack and pinion maybe ? this shake is like a splinter , its driving me crazy!! soon i'll have a new truck (with a shake). |
Weak frame flexing under the stress. Try tightening all your cab bolts.
|
silverado shakes
well i camped out under my truck and pretty much went over every bolt, nut ,brace, mount etc. found left rear shock bushing wore out and loose . also got my wife to shimmy the steering wheel back and forth while i watched the rack and pinion and the rack moved back and forth about a 1/4 inch total. i dont know if its supposed to do that? i have a couple of friends at work that have silverados so i'll check theirs out tomorrow.
|
Did you put her rear on jack stands and put in gear and see if you could see any shaking??
|
silverado shakes
i did that also on monday . started out slow to ckeck the tires and rims then took it up to 65 and it ran fine. had my wife do it first so i could see then did it myself for the feel
|
Visually check the leaf spring bushings. Where they bolt up. Might as well replace them if your gonna take apart to see. But those make a good difference in ride. Bushings are pretty cheap. Bout 20 for a set.

I think you should check the wheel alignments of your vehicle. The problem may be there. |
silverado shakes
checked both my friends silverado rack and pinion and both of theirs are solid. checked mine again and it has about 3/8 of an inch travel . . ordered the bushings today and try to put them in tomorrow. also ordered a leaf spring bushing kit.

silverado shakes
changed the rack bushings and replaced the shock. bushings werent as bad to change as i thought. made a little puller tool and it worked good.took it for a test drive and it rode alot better!!! i'll take it for alignment next week . when the leaf spring bushings come in i'll change them and it should ride like a cadilac

Glad you finally found what the problem is - hopefully!
