Honestly I am a ford guy, but I find more aftermarket parts for Chevrolet trucks. I like the gas mileage the Vortec gets but, would be nice to haul heavy loads like the 5.4, plus I don't think I can pass up this deal, well I think it's one at least. Ok so my buddy has a 2000 Chevy 1500 Single Cab Stepside with the 5.3 with 207000 miles, rebuilt trans, shifts smooth, starts right up, no engine noise etc and I can get it from him for 3000, what does everyone think? :confused:

Hmmm... I guess I'm torn on this one. Have to see what everyone else thinks

That sounds like the miles might be a liitle high, what else has been replace on the truck. I have a 2000 and its just under 160000 and im starting to have to replace alot.

i have a 2000 but its the obs 2500 series so it has the old 350 engine.
the truck has 92K and has seen the best of care.

i have had mostly gm trucks but this last 2000 model has not been the best for me.
guess it was made on third shift new years eve.

fuel pump when out at 45K, ac compression at 72K, front brake caliper at 5K, tach at 2K
trans torque convert at 75K intake manifold gaskets at 60K

these may be normal for a 2000 gm truck but it seems to me a little rough for a truck that has seen as good of care as mine,

but all truck brands can have good ones and lemons.

miles are high but you do not have that much in it if you do have to spend some repair money.

If it is decent cosmetically then I would buy it in a second.

Keep it simple.
 

A chevy vortec 1996 and up 4.3 or 5.7 are great first trucks easy to work on parts are cheap and everywhere.and endless amount of aftermarket and preformance parts.
