Default Soaking the Catalytic

has anyone tried this? soaking the catalytic converter in thinner for a day to clean the junk out?

Lucky me (but bad for mini leakage) the exhaust is all bolt-on and I need a new everything-else down there so I was thinking on saving $700 and cleaning the cat out.

Either thinner or soap/water but I don't see soap doing too much.

Never heard of that ...

I have heard of smashing it on the ground good'n hard. Not saying that's legal or anything. I've just heard of people doing it.

Personally, I'd put a high flow cat on there and call it good.

haha at first I was like "yea, smashing it to f***** pieces"...
... then I realized, "oh, he's serious"

Well, my exhaust budget is only a few hundred, so it's worth a shot I guess

I'd personally be hesitant to soak it in anything flammable. just incase the "thinner" you may use, is not all gone before you restart the engine

If you're really wanting to gut it but leave it on so it looks normal, I would take it off and cut open the top, empty it and weld it back. Looking from the bottom all will seem normal.

haha I have to pass Air Care (Emissions) in 4 months, not sure how that'll work out.

Such a good idea though.

You're not going to pass by soaking it either. In that case your best bet is to go with a high flow cat. Magnaflow has them as cheap as $130.

I have heard of soaking a catalytic and then heard about the same truck catching fire...
