sometimes won't start in park

so the other day at college i went out to start my truck and it wouldnt do anything dinger didnt come on or nothing. was confused. i thought my alternator took a dump on me but i put it in neutral to try to start it and it fired right up. i cant figure out whats wrong. my buddy think its the parking switch but ive never changed one of them. has anyone had any any problems like this before?

sounds like a neutral safety switch issue.....they are really easy to change (just stand up under your truck) lol and look at the drivers side of the tranny where the shift cable comes to the tranny there is a "black ovalish looking thing" with 2 plugs in it.....thats the neutral safety switch....when I change them I do them in neutral instead of park(easier to adjust imo) youll see when you start working with it..........2 bolts 2 plugs and one nut and its off.

While your under there (standing on your toes) check the shift cable. My fathers 98 Tahoe just had the cable break where it mounts to the transmission and when he thought it was in park it was actually only going to reverse and wouldn't start.
