Spare tire size?

:DHi:
I was hoping someone could help me out. I recently had my spare tire & wheel stolen. The truck has 17" wheels and tires on it. The dealer is telling me that all the spares on these trucks are only 16" and it is fine to run the truck with 1 16" and 3 17". Is this true? It seems to me that they would be turning at different rpms and this may damage the differential.
Truck is an 04 1500 ext cab 4x4. Came from the factory with the 17" wheels.

Thanks!

RE: Spare tire size?

As long as the tire is the same size the wheel should not matter. Like 265 75 r16 is the same as a 265 70 r17. So as far as i know if the tire is equally the same you should be fine.

RE: Spare tire size?

You will be fine as long as the diameter of the wheel is the same , even if you have a narrower tire. As long as the height is the same as what you have you will be fine. This may also save you some money on a spare.
