Squeaking Noise When I Drive

Hey when I drive there is a loud squeaking noise that comes from my 96 Sierra. It sounds kind of like I am breaking but it only cuts out when I do break and there is no noise when I am stopped. Any ideas on what it is and how much it will cost to get it fixed?

Thanks

RE: Squeaking Noise When I Drive

I"d check the front and rear universal joints. I had a squeak at low speed but not at higher speeds and no noise when I was stopped because the drive shaft was not turning. One journal of the universal joint was rusted and had lost all the needle bearings. luck was on my side and I caught it in time.

Hey Shane,

Great input! And it's great to have you here at Truckforums as well- I hope that you continue to post and be active. One thing to keep in mind, and I did the same thing a few times when I first joined, is the date of the original post. As you can see, this post is actually nine years old haha :D:D

Chirping Noise from wheel area

I have a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4. When I drive I get a high pitch chirping noise that seems to be coming from the front driver side wheel area. I replaced the brake hardware, rotors and pads about 2k miles ago. The noise stops when I press the brake. No noise when stopped only while driving. The noise happens at low and high speeds. Any ideas what this noise can be???
