Default starter problems on 96 z71 with 5.7 liter

Question: my starter was starting to crank noisy. Then it wouldn't crank. The bolts had broken off and the starter came loose. I bought the truck used and I'm assuming the bolts weren't starter bolts. One of the bolt holes in the housing is cracked. The starter is good but when I try and mount it if its aligned properly the bolt holes are off. If I just bolt it up its not aligned. I've tried shimming it and can't get it shimmed properly. There are other bolt holes in the mounting housing so is there another mounting option besides an oem starter?

No. There is only one OEM starter for your truck.
You can have the cracker mount professionally welded then re-tapped

A staggered bolt pattern starter wouldn't work. I found one from summit that's not OEM but the website said it would fit. OEM doesn't really matter to me.

Thanks, Wade

I hope he comes back to give us an update. I'd love to know what the fix was.
